Freightway Redevelopment has not been shelved. The Village Board paused the highly controversial project – to build a massive multifamily apartment complex and parking facility. This temporary pause is due in large part to the Scarsdale Voters’ Choice Party’s (VCP’s) efforts to inform residents of Freightway’s risks of overcrowding our schools, roads, and commuter trains. We urgently need Village Trustees who are responsive to our concerns, who can oversee a $60 million annual operating budget, and who will assure us that our tax dollars are spent wisely (not paying more than $300,000 for consultants and lawyers guiding us to a Freightway plan, that our community adamantly opposes).

Whether it is proposed additional apartments in the Village Center and in the Freightway Redevelopment, raw sewage flowing in Edgewood streets, harmful property revaluations, increasingly deteriorated infrastructure, or expensive contract negotiations, Village decisions directly impact the nature and character of our community and our present and future tax burden. The March 18th Scarsdale Board of Trustees election is so important, because the status quo is not working for all of our residents. We, the VCP Trustee Candidates are ready to bring positive and transformative change to our beautiful “Village in the Park!” We should all be its stewards for current and future generations.

We look forward to meeting you, so that we can share with you our proposals to improve our Village operations. We want to hear how to serve you best! Also, we will participate in the League of Women Voters’ ‘Candidate Forum,’ on Thursday, March 5 at Village Hall, 7:30 pm.

Voters Choice Party Platform

We, the VCP candidates are from a broad range of professional and thought perspectives. We love living in Scarsdale and have a strong, unwavering commitment to maintaining the quality of our schools.

We believe that it is important to:

  • ensure that the Village does not commit to Freightway Redevelopment or other municipal projects without undertaking thorough due diligence to achieve a positive long-term fiscal impact on our tax base without a negative impact on our schools, roads, train platforms, or our small-town atmosphere;
  • effect a political process that is transparent, responsive to residents’ needs, accountable to taxpayers, and is a far more congenial and open process where residents feel comfortable and welcomed;
  • safeguard Scarsdale’s fiscal sustainability and maintain tax levels no higher than they are today in order to enhance property values and to enable young and empty-nest residents to stay in Scarsdale;
  • preserve Scarsdale’s current level of single- and multiple-family dwellings to minimize crowding;
  • establish a more vibrant downtown that serves residents’ and merchants’ needs;
  • utilize Scarsdale residents’ enormous talents in an inclusive manner in Village Hall decision-making;
  • maintain a high standard of Village services; and
  • continue to be in the vanguard of environmental and sustainability projects.
