Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College to Hold Spring Classes in Scarsdale
Open house will include instructor readings and faculty will describe coming classes in Bronxville and at Scarsdale Public Library.

An open house on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 to include faculty readings will be held by The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Prospective and current students are invited to attend, said Patricia Dunn, Director of The Writing Institute and Assistant Dean, Graduate and Professional Studies. The readings will begin at 7 p.m.

- Structure. A workshop dissects a short story and a novel excerpt
- Modes of narration. Telling a story in first, second, or third person
- Moving through time. Manipulating time in a story
- Sentence structure. How decisions at the micro level inform and strengthen a story
- Setting as character. How setting becomes a character in fiction and nonfiction
Staff instructors will be available at the open house gathering to describe the spring semester courses. Novel and nonfiction courses at the Bronxville campus include dialogue writing, memoir writing, writing for children and young adults, story mapping, writing for stage and screen, overcoming writer’s block, magazine article writing, writing poetry, and book promotion.

The open house program will be held at Slonim House at Sarah Lawrence College, 915 Kimball Avenue in Bronxville, 914-395-2205.
