Zachys VP Lands Huge Wine Deal on Reality Business Show 'Shark Tank'

Andrew McMurray, vice president of the Scarsdale-based wine and liquor store, is a consultant for Zipz Wine.

Andrew McMurray, vice president of the Scarsdale-based wine and liquor store Zachys, convinced “Shark Tank” businessman Kevin O’Leary to invest $2.5 million in single-serve wine makers Zipz Wine, making it the largest investment in the reality show’s history, writes Business Insider.

The deal is contingent on Zipz landing a contract with Costco, with which O’Leary already has a professional relationship. McMurray is a consultant for Zipz Wine, and his superlative salesmanship sealed the deal; the video of the Shark Tank episode can be viewed on Hulu Plus.

Zipz Wine is a resealable, reusable single-serving of wine in a patented glass-like container. Depending on the store, they sell for $3 or $4 each, which O’Leary wants to see reduced to about $1.50. At that price point, he believes he can get it into Costco.

“The whole thing was completely surreal,” McMurray told The Journal News. “You really need to be prepared. I spent the weekend (prior to filming) being quizzed and drilled by the owners of Zipz.”
