1.1 Million Doses Of Fentanyl Seized From Home; Trio Arrested

One of the men arrested unleashed a pit bull that charged at detectives Friday, Suffolk Police say.

MASTIC BEACH, NY – Three people were arrested when police executed a search warrant at a Suffolk County home Friday afternoon and seized 725 grams of fentanyl, enough for 1.1 million doses of the deadly drug that's 50 times stronger than heroin police said.

Corey Robinson, 24, Thomas Moore, 41, and Daequane Rickenbacker, 25, were arrested after an investigation conducted by Suffolk County Narcotics Section detectives, Seventh Precinct Crime Section officers, in conjunction with officials from United States Customs and Border Protection - Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST), Homeland Security Investigations John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), the New York City Police Department and the United States Postal Service, police said.

Customs officials intercepted two postal packages from Hong Kong destined for a residence in Mastic Beach and on Friday around 4 p.m., a search warrant was executed at 30 Edwards Road where authorities seized about 725 grams of fentanyl, $7,400 cash, numerous 9mm rounds two cellphones and a 2007 Mercedes-Benz.

As officers approached the home, Moore had a pit bull on a leash in the front yard, police said. Moore ignored officer’s commands and released the dog, which then charged at detectives, police said.

Two rounds were fired that struck the dog, which was treated at a local animal hospital. Police said they have no details on the current condition of the dog.

Robinson and Moore both live at the home, police said. Robinson is charged with first degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Moore is charged with obstructing governmental administration.

"This seizure stopped over one million doses of fentanyl from being used in our communities, potentially saving hundreds of thousands of lives," Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim said. "This was a great operation and I want to thank our partners in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and the U.S. Postal Service for their collaboration."
