1 Taken To Hospital After 4-Alarm Fire Breaks Out In Mastic Early Sunday Morning: Authorities

It started at around 12:15 a.m., drawing firefighters from at least four departments, the Mastic Fire Department said.

MASTIC, NY — One person was taken to the hospital after a four-alarm fire broke out in the basement of a home in Mastic early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The fire started at the home on Mastic Road, near Main Avenue, at around 12:15 a.m., with firefighters finding the fire in the basement upon arrival, and it was "knocked down quickly," according to the Mastic Fire Department.

In addition to Mastic, three other departments responded, including Mastic Beach, Brookhaven, and Yaphank, the fire department said. Altogether, at least nine agencies responded, including Suffolk police, and ambulance companies from Mastic, Shirley, Southampton, and Ronkonkoma, authorities said.

Suffolk police said one person was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue for evaluation.

"While firefighters worked to control the fire, EMS crews remained on standby to assist any injured personnel, coordinating closely with fire leadership," the Mastic Community Ambulance Company said in a post to Facebook.

Firefighter rehab was provided by Shirley Community Ambulance, and Southampton Village EMS and the Ronkonkoma Fire Department Ambulance covered Mastic Beach Ambulance, Mastic Community Ambulance said.

"This incident highlighted the strength of inter-agency cooperation," the post continued, adding that the ambulance company "is proud to work alongside" the fire department, and our neighboring agencies."

"Outstanding teamwork by all involved," the post concluded.
