23 Bomb Threats Across LI As Others Investigated Nationwide: Cops

Police have said the threats are not deemed credible but are being investigated.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — As a series of bomb threats were reported across the United States Thursday, police responded to at least 23 threats in both Suffolk and Nassau Counties, officials said.

Threats were emailed to schools, businesses and media organizations, news reports say. The source was reportedly an automated email meant to get Bitcoin payments from the recipient, with threats saying the bombs would detonate by the end of the workday if the funds were not received.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, officers have "responded to at least 11 bomb threat incidents during which businesses, one school and one medical facility received an email demanding money. The threats are being investigated, but are deemed to be non-credible at this time."
