2 Minors Taken Into Custody After Stolen Vehicle Found In Mastic Beach: Police
The duo was arrested on Child and Family Service warrants, Suffolk police say.
SHIRLEY, NY — Two minors were taken into custody on Child and Family Service warrants after a stolen vehicle bolted from a traffic stop, and it was later left at the side of the road in Shirley on Thursday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
Officers tried to pull over the vehicle, which was stolen from a location in Riverhead, and the driver kept going, police said, adding that the vehicle was later found parked and unoccupied at the intersection of Sheridan and Fairview drives.
The incident caused a commotion in the surrounding neighborhood, with residents noting that K-9 units and a helicopter were used to search the area.

The two children, who are from Riverhead, were found near the vehicle, and while they were taken into custody on Child and Family Service warrants, they were not charged in relation to the vehicle's theft, police said.
One of the children is believed to have been the driver, according to police.
