4 Teens Charged With Gun Possession After Drive-by Shooting On LI: PD

One of the teens had fired a gun at another vehicle and the four were apprehended a short time later, police said.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — Four teenagers were charged with gun possession after one of them fired the weapon at another vehicle in Mastic Beach Monday night, Suffolk police said.

The vehicle had been traveling on Washington Avenue at about 6 p.m., when one of the teens, a 17-year-old boy, fired the shots at the other vehicle, police said, adding that officers found the vehicle at the intersection on Dawn Drive at Chanel Drive and arrested the four.

The 17-year-old and the three others, including another 17-year-old boy, as well as a 14-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl, were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, police said. The 17-year-old who fired shots was also charged with reckless endangerment, according to police.

Police do not release the names of minors charged with crimes.

A fight precipitated the shooting and its cause is under investigation, police said.
