MASTIC, NY — A Mastic man was indicted after stabbing a 71-year-old motorist in the neck with a knife during a road rage incident, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

According to the investigation, on May 19, at about 9:07 a.m., the victim was driving when he arrived and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Ditmas Avenue and Riviera Drive in Mastic, the DA said.

Giraud was reportedly a passenger in a Nissan Murano that pulled up behind the victim’s vehicle at the intersection, Tierney said.

The driver of the Nissan Murano reportedly honked their horn at the victim, and the victim honked back, the DA said.

The victim then made a U-turn, and the driver of the Nissan Murano made a right-hand turn onto Riviera Drive, Tierney said.

Shortly after, the driver of Nissan Murano headed back onto Ditmas Avenue and honked at the victim again, the DA said.

Giraud and the victim both exited from the vehicles and had a brief interaction before Giraud reportedly stabbed the victim in the back of the neck with a knife,Tierney said.

Giraud then reportedly got back into the Nissan Murano and was driven away from the scene, the DA said.

The victim called 911 and was transported to NYU Langone in Patchogue where he was treated for his injury, the DA said.

Giraud was arrested in Mastic; the knife that Giraud reportedly used in the attack was recovered from the Nissan Murano by law enforcement, Tierney said.

On Thursday, Giraud was arraigned on the indictment before Acting Supreme Court Justice Steven A. Pilewski; he was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, Class D violent felonies, and one count of third-degree assault, a Class A misdemeanor, Tierney said.

Justice Pilewski ordered Giraud held on $50,000 cash, $1000,000 bond, or $500,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case, Tierney said.

Giraud is due back in court on July 20, and faces up to 2 ⅓ to 7 years in prison if convicted of the top count, the DA said.

He is being represented by Toni Marie Angeli, who could not immediately be reached for comment.

"No one should fear for their life or safety because other motorists on our roadways act out of anger," said Tierney. "My office is committed to ensuring that those who resort to violence on our roads face serious consequences."
