RIVERSIDE, NY — A Ridge man was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison after a jury found him guilty in connection with robbing a Yaphank gas station at gunpoint last year while on parole, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said Wednesday.

In 2013, Marion Maupin, 33, was sentenced to three years in prison after he was convicted of second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon, and then again in 2019, he was convicted of second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon and sentenced to five years in prison.

He was released on parole in January 2023.

In April, Maupin was convicted of first-and second-degree robbery, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer.

At his sentencing, he was deemed a persistent violent felony
offender.

Defense attorney, Keith O'Halloran of Westhampton Beach told Patch that Maupin "maintained his innocence throughout the trial process and continues to do so."

"He respects the jury process, but looks forward to appealing the decision," he added.

Tierney says the state's parole system is broken.

"This defendant, with two prior weapons convictions, was not deterred by parole from arming himself and robbing a gas station at gunpoint,” he said. “The people of Suffolk County deserve to be protected from repeat violent offenders such as this defendant, who was unfortunately on parole at the time of this crime instead of remaining in prison to complete his sentence.”

On Jan. 24, 2025, at around 7:30 a.m., Maupin and his accomplice, Raiquan Davis, 28, of Coram, entered a Shell gas station in Yaphank, both men were wearing hoodies and masks, prosecutors said.

While in the gas station, Davis acted as the lookout
by the door, while Maupin pointed a loaded firearm at the clerk’s head, demanded money, and stole cash from the register, according to prosecutors.

Maupin and Davis then fled the gas station in a white Cadillac, prosecutors said.

Suffolk police officers spotted the white Cadillac in Bellport and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but instead of stopping, Maupin and Davis led police on a pursuit lasting around 15 minutes, at points driving more than 100 mph, according to prosecutors.

During the pursuit and while the car was still in motion, officers saw Maupin and Davis abandon the Cadillac and saw a gun being thrown into a neighboring yard before the vehicle crashed into a telephone pole in front of a home daycare, prosecutors said.

Maupin and Davis tried to run away but were ultimately arrested in the rear yard of that daycare, and the gun was recovered by law enforcement and was later determined to be loaded and operable, according to prosecutors.
