SHIRLEY, NY — Five people, including a mother and her two children, were rescued after nearly being swept away in riptides off of Smith Point County Park in Shirley on Friday night, Suffolk police said.
The 34-year-old mom was caught in a riptide with her six-and 10-year-old daughters just before 6 p.m., and a 36-year-old man helped pull them to shore safely, according to police.
Shortly after, a 30-and a 40-year-old were caught in a riptide there, and a surfer helped them to shore, police said.
The Mastic Beach Ambulance Company was on hand and checked everyone out, and all refused further medical treatment, according to police.
