Suffolk To Treat Parts Of South Shore For Mosquito Larvae

SHIRLEY, NY — The Suffolk County Department of Public Works' Division of Vector Control plans to treat parts of some South Shore marshes by helicopter to control mosquito larvae this week, officials said.

Should weather conditions prevent completion of the work, it will be continued on the next suitable day.

It will run from Tuesday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The method of application will include a low-altitude helicopter, using granular pellets of VectoPrime FG, or Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, and Altosid, or Methoprene.

The areas include:

• Smith Point
• Johns Neck
• Mastic Beach
• Grove Avenue
• Pine Neck Avenue
• Roe Avenue
• Hedges Creek
• Application is pending at Fireplace Neck, Abets Creek, Lyman Marsh, Bellport Bay, and Beaverdam Creek.
