4 Hospitalized After Chain Reaction Crash Involving 4 Vehicles, Including U.S.P.S. Vehicle In Shirley: PD

All four drivers were taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue with non-life-threatening injuries, Suffolk police say.

SHIRLEY, NY — The drivers of four vehicles, including a U.S. Postal Service vehicle, were taken to the hospital after a chain-reaction crash in Shirley on Thursday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

A 2023 Nissan driven by 22-year-old Shirley woman was traveling westbound on Montauk Highway, when a 2011 Mitsubishi driven by 69-year-old Selden woman, struck the vehicle at the intersection of Camp Upton Road at around 3:30 p.m., according to police.

A 2007 Toyota driven by 70-year-old Mastic Beach woman was traveling westbound on Montauk Highway and swerved out of the way, but struck the Mitsubishi, police said.

A U.S.P.S. vehicle, which was driven by a 55-year-old Shirley man, was in the left-turn lane on Montauk Highway, facing eastbound, when the Mitsubishi struck it, causing minor damage, according to police.

All four vehicles were towed from the scene, police said.

All four drivers were taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Traffic was backed up along Montauk Highway and the side streets while first responders cleared the scene.
