Scammer Conned Suffolk Woman, 79, Out Of $4,200 In ID Theft Scheme: Police

RIDGE, NY —Suffolk police are seeking the public's help in identifying the suspect they say was part of a bank scam in August.

A 79-year-old woman was contacted by a person claiming to be from TD Bank on Aug. 19, and they said there was fraudulent activity on her account, according to police.

The caller instructed her to turn over her debit card to a man, who then arrived at her home in a black Nissan Maxima, police said.

The man informed the woman that he would track down the apparent fraud, and she would be issued a new debit card, according to police.

The following day, around $4,200 was withdrawn at an ATM in Shirley, which prompted the woman to call 911, police said.

In images from security video, the man can be seen wearing a long-sleeve black shirt with an "alo" logo written in white, and black shorts, as well as a black facial mask, and gray Crocs.

The crime is being investigated as identity theft by Financial Crimes Unit detectives.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
