Area Firefighters Battle Blaze At Mastic Beach Home On Saturday

No residents were injured, but there is the possibility that the fire claimed the lives of some family pets, the fire department said.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — A least seven first responder agencies were called to the scene of a late night blaze at a home in Mastic Beach on Saturday, authorities said.

The fire broke out at a two-story home on Maple Road at about 9:19 p.m. drawing local firefighters from three different departments, including Mastic Beach, Mastic, and Brookhaven, according to the Mastic Beach Fire Department. Mastic Beach Ambulance responded, as well as the Mastic and Shirley ambulance companies, which provided mutual aid for firefighter rehabilitation, a post read on the Mastic Beach Fire Department's Facebook page.

No one was injured in the fire, but there was "an unconfirmed report" of that some of the family's pets did not survive the fire, the post read.

The residents were home at the time the fire broke out, but they escaped before the fire department arrived, a police spokeswoman said. The cause is under investigation by the Suffolk police Arson Squad and it appears "accidental in nature," she said.
