Arson Investigating Garbage Truck Fire In Middle Island: Police

MIDDLE ISLAND, NY — Arson Squad detectives are investigating a fire that broke out in a garbage truck early Monday morning at a carting business in Middle Island, Suffolk police said.

The fire started at the Miller Place-Yaphank Road business just before 3 a.m., according to police.

The fire caused damage to a nearby garbage truck, but no one was hurt, police said.

It was not the only incident involving a truck on Monday morning. Saddle tanks on a truck ruptured, spilling diesel fuel out onto the roadway on Middle Island Road in Middle Island at around 8 a.m., snarling traffic as crews cleaned up the mess, police said.
