Anthony Montanez, who teaches at William Floyd and has a shop in Moriches, will be the barber on call for U.S. Open players in Southampton.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — It's going to be an exciting week for beloved local barber Anthony Montanez, who teaches at William Floyd High School and is the owner of Monti’s Barbershop in Moriches.

Montanez has been chosen to serve as a barber to the PGA Tour’s annual U.S. Open golf tournament, held this year at Shinnecock Hills Golf Course in Southampton.

Montanez will be in charge of ensuring that the athletes look their best throughout the tournament, the district said in a release.

This is the fifth time the championship is being hosted at the historic golf course; the event takes place from June 11 to 17 at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton.

The golf championship, which brought more than 550 jobs to the area, is anticipated to generate between $120 million to $130 million in economic impact for the region, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said. The analysis, he said, is based on expected weekly attendance of more than 200,000 people, including players, fans, volunteers, vendors and media.
