Library staff surprised the student with balloons and told him he'd earned the recognition for all that he does in the library's enrichment programs; he will receive a plaque, a letter of commendation, and a $150 stipend at the Long Island Library Conference in Melville on May 3, library staffers said.
"Congratulations, Kevin, and keep up the great work," the library said.
