Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station East Moriches rescued three people in distress near Moriches Inlet, New York, Friday.
At approximately 10:50 a.m., watchstanders at Sector Long Island Sound received a call from Coast Guard Station Shinnecock stating a 14-foot fishing boat with three people aboard was disabled and beginning to take on water from the surf in the inlet.
At 11:15 a.m., crewmembers aboard a Coast Guard 29-foot Response Boat-Small arrived on scene to find the individuals in life jackets aboard the disabled vessel.

The three people were transferred to the Coast Guard response boat and the rescue crew put the fishing boat into a tow. The vessel and the people were then transferred to a commercial salvage company at 11:40 a.m., and brought to Hart Cove.
The Coast Guard urges boaters to check marine weather conditions and ensure all their equipment is operating properly before getting underway.
