DOT Worker Police Say Was Struck By Drunken Driver On LIE In Holtsville Returns Home From Hospital: Report

MASTIC, NY — The state Department of Transportation worker, who police say was struck by a drunk driver on Feb. 26, has returned home from the hospital, News 12 reported.
The worker, 47, of Mastic, was dispatched to the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville to help at the scene of a single-vehicle crash involving a drunken driver, when he was struck, Suffolk police initially told Patch.
He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

The worker, who is a local union vice president, will continue to recover from his injuries at home, the DOT told News 12.

The 54-year-old man from Centereach who struck him was charged with driving while intoxicated, according to police.
The driver involved in the first crash, a 30-year-old man from Mastic Beach, was also charged with DWI, police said.
