Driver Caught Dumping Tires In Pine Barrens In Yaphank: State DEC

A trail camera set up by the Pine Barrens Law Commission caught the dumping on film; the driver was fined $250, officials said.

YAPHANK, NY — A driver, who was caught on film leaving tires in a known illegal dumping area in the Pine Barrens in Yaphank recently, was fined $250 and agreed to properly dispose of the debris, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

The driver was caught July 14 in a black truck with tires and a television in its bed by a trail camera that was setup by the Pine Barrens Law Enforcement Commission, DEC officials stated in a news release.

“The photos clearly show the truck entering with the debris and leaving empty,” the news release stated.

When Environmental Conservation Officers tracked down the driver at his home, he admitted to dumping the tires and was issued a $250 fine, under the condition that he properly disposes of the tires, according to the DEC. The driver’s name was not released.
