Police ID Female Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash In Mastic

She was struck by one vehicle then run over by a second; the driver of the second vehicle fled the scene — and the woman died, police say.

MASTIC, NY — Police have identified the female pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash in Mastic Saturday night as Masita Sayon, 28, of Bay Shore.

According to Suffolk County Police, the crash took place at the intersection of Mastic Rd. and Southaven Ave. at 11:53 p.m.

Suffolk County Police major case unit detectives are investigating the crash, which took place when a woman crossing Mastic Rd. was struck by a southbound 2004 Acura, knocking her to the ground, police said.

She was then run over by a second vehicle that was traveling south; the driver of the second vehicle stopped briefly before fleeing the scene, police said.

The woman, who has not yet been identified by police, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Acura remained at the scene and was not injured, police said.

The man that fled the scene was driving a vehicle described as older model, silver, 4-door Chevrolet Impala, police said.
