Floyd Girls' Basketball Team Raises Over $1K For American Cancer Society
It was part of Score for a Cure/Coaches Versus Cancer.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — The William Floyd High School girls’ basketball program recently raised over $1,200 in the “Score for a Cure/Coaches Versus Cancer” fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society, school district officials said.
The athletes hosted a bake sale, sold t-shirts, and held a team “shoot-a-thon” to collect donations from family and friends to help raise money, head coach Rich Sinclair stated in a news release.
“I would like to thank the players, their families, and friends for their help and generosity with fundraising for the American Cancer Society,” he added.

As far as the court goes, the Colonials own a 7-1 league record (8-4 overall), and its currently in second place in Division II, school district officials said, adding that after reaching the playoffs in 2022 for the first time since 2013, the team "is well-positioned for another playoff appearance later this season."
Also, Junior guard Kayla Gilmore recently broke the school record for most points scored in a game with 51, in a 66-34 victory over Riverhead during the winter break, school district officials said.

She surpassed the previous girls’ record held by Maggie Makofsky (42 points in 2000) and the boys’ record held by Robert Hodgson (47 points in 1994), according to school district officials.
