Floyd HS Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

MASTIC BEACH, NY — William Floyd High School senior Ian C. Hua is one of about 16,000 semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

The senior will have an opportunity to continue on in the competition for about 7,500 National Merit Scholarships, which are worth nearly $30 million and will be offered next spring, according to a news release. About 95 percent of the semifinalists are expected to achieve finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a scholarship and earn the title of National Merit Scholar, the news release stated.
