LI Son Accused Of Stabbing Dad Around 40 Times, As He Screamed To 911, 'I'm Being Murdered': DA

RIVERSIDE, NY — The Lake Ronkonkoma man, accused in the fatal knifing on Labor Day, stabbed his father around 40 times, part of which he could be heard telling a 911 operator he was being murdered, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

The reveal came Thursday as Sage Arias-Brown, a 33-year-old Lake Ronkonkoma resident, pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge. The judge ordered him remanded during the pendency of his case.

He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. His defense attorney, Katherine Fernandez of Uniondale, previously told Patch that he has a history of mental health issues, but no criminal convictions..

"Mr. Brown does have a history of mental health issues, thus we are declining further comment at this time and asking that he be afforded the right to allow the judicial process play out," she said.

Brown is also facing a robbery charge in an unrelated case, online records show.

Arias-Brown is due back in court on Oct. 21.

Tierney said Arias-Brown is "accused of viciously taking the life" of his 69-year-old father, Edward Brown, as he "desperately called the police for help."

“The facts in this case are heartbreaking," he said. "This indictment is an important step towards holding the defendant accountable for the brutal violence he allegedly inflicted on his own parent.”

On Sept. 7, at around 12:30 a.m., Arias-Brown went inside his father’s studio apartment in Mastic, and a neighbor heard a loud bang, followed by Brown screaming, prosecutors said.

Brown was able to call 911 during the attack, and the 911 call captured him screaming, "I’m being murdered. What are you doing to me, Sage?, according to prosecutors.

The neighbor saw Arias-Brown leave his father’s apartment several minutes after the 911 call was placed, prosecutors said, adding police officers responding to the scene found Arias-Brown walking around a half a mile from the crime scene and placed him under arrest.

When officers went inside the apartment, they found Brown unresponsive and covered in blood, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to prosecutors.

An autopsy later determined Brown had been stabbed around 40 times in the torso, chest, and neck, prosecutors said.
