Man Charged With DWI In Crash That Injured Motorcyclist: Cops
He was arrested after fleeing the scene, police say.
SHIRLEY, NY — A Mastic Beach man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after leaving the scene of a crash that left a motorcyclist seriously injured in Shirley, police said.
According to Suffolk County Police, the incident took place at 5:50 p.m. in the northbound lane of the William Floyd Parkway. Robert Engel, 52, of Northport, was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson north on the William Floyd Parkway, near Lawrence Road, when he was struck from behind by a 2012 Toyota sedan driven by Thomas Dudley, 36, police said.
Engel was transported via Shirley Ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Dudley fled the scene but was located a short time later and arrested by Seventh Precinct officers, police said. He was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, police said.
He is being held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 2, police said.
