Man Charged With Murder Of Woman Found Dead In Her Bed: Cops

The woman was found unresponsive in her bed in 2011, police say.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — Seven years after a woman was found dead in her bed in her Mastic Beach home, Suffolk County Police arrested a man Thursday and charged him with the 2011 murder, authorities said.

Suffolk County homicide squad detectives arrested William Hubbard, 48, of Medford, on County Road Route 111 in Manorville at approximately 7:30 p.m. and charged him with second degree murder, police said.

On May 24, 2011 at 1:20 p.m., Suffolk County Police were called to a home on Magnolia Drive where Shanell Malave, 26, was found unresponsive in her bed, police said.

Suffolk County Police homicide squad detectives investigated the case; Malave was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

It was unclear what had caused Malave’s death; an autopsy by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner determined that Malave’s death was a homicide, police said.

Hubbard will be held overnight at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility, and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Supreme Court in Riverhead on Friday, police said.
