Police ID Man Killed In Sunrise Highway Crash
The vehicle crashed into a concrete pillar and the driver was later pronounced dead, police say.
NORTH BELLPORT, NY — Police have identified the man who died in a North Bellport crash Friday night as Paul Freiler, 50, of Shirley.
According to Suffolk County Police, a 77-year old man was driving a 2017 Lincoln sedan eastbound on Sunrise Highway, west of Exit 55, when the vehicle was struck from behind by a 2017 GMC Sierra at 9:45 p.m. The Lincoln veered off the roadway into the center median and struck the divider, while the GMC continued eastbound for approximately 100 feet and crashed into a concrete pillar under the Sills Road overpass, police said.
Freiler was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, police said. The other driver was transported to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Suffolk County Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
