LI Man Who Sexually Abused Ex-Girlfriend's Daughter, 6, Sentenced: DA
The little girl was subjected to repeated sexual abuse for nearly a year, beginning when she was 6 years old, Suffolk County DA says.
MIDDLE ISLAND, NY — A Middle Island man was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing his ex-girlfriend's daughter, 6, for more than a year, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.
Lucas Hires, 42, was also sentenced to 20 years of post-release supervision after a jury found him guilty on April 29 of one count of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, Tierney said.
“The defendant violated an innocent child in the most horrible way imaginable,” said Tierney.

“And while this sentence will prevent him from hurting other children for a significant amount of
time, the trauma he caused will last forever.”
The evidence at trial established that in June of 2019 the child, now 9, told her
mother that she had been subjected to repeated sexual abuse for nearly a year, beginning when she was 6 years old, Tierney said. Her mother had been Hires' live-in girlfriend, Tierney said.

The child's mother then notified the Suffolk County Police Department; an
included recording several cell phone calls between the mother and Hires, as well as the
recording of an in-person conversation between the two, Tierney said.
Police also recovered bedding from the child's bedroom and analysis by the Suffolk
County crime laboratory matched Hires' DNA to the DNA recovered from the sheets
and comforter, Tierney said.
Hires was found guilty in April before the Honorable Timothy Mazzei; he was represented by Ves
Mitev, Tierney said.
