Mastic Beach Man Charged With Animal Abuse: Suffolk Police
A roughly six-month-old puppy was found to be underweight with "several medical conditions," Suffolk cops say.
MASTIC BEACH, NY — A Mastic Beach man was charged on Wednesday with animal cruelty for not properly caring for a puppy, Suffolk police said.
Ylik Mathews, 34, did not feed or provide medical attention to a five- to six-month old female puppy that was found by investigators to be underweight with "several medical conditions" at about 11:14 a.m. on Jan. 24, according to police.
Mathews was charged with torturing, injuring, and or not feeding an animal, an unclassified misdemeanor under the state's Agricultural and Markets Law, police said. He is due to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on March 8, according to online court records.
