Mastic Man Struck, Killed Getting Out Of Disabled Pickup: Cops

The man, 31, was struck after getting out of his truck, which had mechanical issues, police say.

MASTIC, NY — A Mastic Beach man was struck and killed after getting out of his disabled pickup truck in Sayville on Wednesday morning, according to Suffolk Police.

Shawn Devlin, 31, was driving a 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck on the on-ramp to westbound Sunrise Highway between Broadway and Lincoln Avenue when his car experienced mechanical issues.

He pulled his truck into the area between the entrance ramp and the express lanes to get out of his truck. After exiting the truck, he was struck by a 2017 Jeep at 5:20 a.m.

Devlin was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Jeep, 58-year-old John Annibell, of Holtsville, was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
