MASTIC BEACH, NY — A woman was arrested after her 15-year old daughter was pulled over for speeding, police said.
According to Suffolk County Police, the incident took place in the westbound lane of Sunrise Highway in Eastport on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
A highway patrol bureau officer observed a 1997 Mercury Sable traveling at a high rate of speed on westbound Sunrise Highway near Exit 62 and pulled over the vehicle; the driver was the 15-year-old girl, police said.
The officer determined that the teen's mother, Yolanda Martinez-Reymundo, allowed the teen to drive the Mercury alone, police said.
Martinez-Reymundo, 41, of Mastic Beach, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child; she will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on June 25, police said.
