PBMC recognized for outstanding stroke and type 2 diabetes care
American Heart Association honors Peconic Bay Medical Center with Stroke Gold Plus award

Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) has received the American Heart Association’s Gold Plus Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Quality Achievement Award for their commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. Peconic Bay Medical Center also received the Association’s Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll award and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award. These awards are on the heels of the AHA also recognizing PBMC for its work to educate patients about the recovery path after they’ve been discharged from the hospital.
“Every day, Peconic Bay Medical Center strives to enhance the patient experience and outcomes by providing exemplary care,” said Amy Loeb, PBMC executive director. “This designation by the AHA shows the dedication our team has to caring for patients and helping Eastern Suffolk County residents live longer, healthier lives.”
AHA’s Get With The Guidelines – Stroke is an in-hospital program for improving stroke care by promoting consistent adherence to the latest scientific treatment guidelines. Numerous published studies demonstrate the program’s success in achieving measurable patient outcome improvements. The Gold Plus Award celebrates hospitals that have exhibited this high level of care for 24 consecutive months or more.

As the only level III trauma on the North Fork, a New York State-designated stroke center, and Eastern Suffolk County’s largest healthcare provider, PBMC provides life-saving practices to the members of its community. In addition, PBMC recently announced that it will also be expanding its emergency services department to include a new 6,600-square-foot facility to enhance critical care capabilities. With over 700 stroke cases arriving at PBMC’s emergency room each year, the larger capacity will enable PBMC to enhance its ability to treat and care for patients at the highest level—significantly increasing the probability of survival, reducing the chance of the stroke causing a disability and shortening the recovery period time.
“As more severe cases demand more sophisticated care and facilities, this expansion will aid in the growing number of patients with life-threatening cases PBMC has seen in recent years,” said Dr. Jeffrey Zilberstein, Medical Director at PBMC. “This Gold Plus Award recognizes our incredible team of medical professionals and their work to provide life-saving care, and we are excited for the future as the expansion of our emergency department comes to fruition.”
