Pedestrian Struck In Shirley Dies: Cops

Police have identified the man who was hit near William Floyd Parkway and Brushwood Drive, police say.

SHIRLEY, NY — A pedestrian struck Wednesday afternoon in Shirley has died, police said.

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating the crash that involved Rayvern Matthews, 66, of Shirley, who was crossing the southbound William Floyd Parkway at Brushwood Drive when he was struck by a 2014 Mercedes C300 traveling southbound driven by Nyeshia Skipwith, 31, of Shirley, at 1:10 p.m, police said.

Matthews suffered severe head trauma and was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Skipwith was not injured and stayed at the scene, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
