Police ID Woman Found Dead On Shirley Beach

SHIRLEY, NY — A woman found dead on the outer beach at Smith Point County Park in Shirley Thursday has been identified as Christine Brown, 67, of Bellport, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, homicide squad detectives are investigating her death; Seventh Precinct and marine bureau officers responded to the outer beach at Smith Point County Park on Jan. 31 at 9:50 a.m. after a Suffolk County Department of Parks employee found the woman's body, police said.

The woman’s 2006 Chevrolet, which appeared to be stuck in the sand, was found approximately a quarter mile away from the woman’s body, police said.

Her body was transported to the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death, but the death does not appear to be criminal in nature, police said.
