Protest Over George Floyd Killing Organized In Shirley
The large protest is ongoing Monday night in Shirley, police say.
SHIRLEY, NY — Protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis were reported in Shirley Monday night, police said.
"People are protesting in the area of William Floyd and Montauk Highway," Suffolk County Police said Monday evening. "William Floyd Parkway from the north side of Sunrise Highway to the Seventh Precinct, located at 1491 William Floyd Parkway, is closed."
Police added that there have been no arrests and the protest is ongoing.

One resident in the area told others to avoid the "big" protest taking place on Montauk Highway from Smith Road to Van Buren Street and the William Floyd Parkway from Surrey Circle to Sunrise Highway.
According to that bystander, multiple police precincts and an emergency services unit were onhand, with authorities locking down the area, but police could not confirm that information.
