LI Jewelry Store Owner's 'Spirits Not Dampened' After Burglars Swipe 45 Watches Worth 'Well Over' $10K

SHIRLEY, NY — Burglars broke into Enrico's Jewelry Store on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, and swiped well over $10,000 in watches on Saturday night, the owner confirmed for Patch.

In a post to social media, featuring security video from the incident, the owner stated that a paver was thrown through the window, and about 45 watches that were embossed with the store's name on the dial were swiped.

Suffolk police could only confirm that the burglary happened just before 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Further information was not immediately released regarding the break-in.

The owner of Enrico's called the incident sad after being in the community for 42 years.

He said that he did not want his store to look like those in New York City with roll-down gates.

"But obviously the area is changing," he said, adding that he might have to add roll-down gates.

"This area, I know, has a bad reputation, but I have been here 42 years," he said. "There's nothing but nice, honest, hard-working people, so I am not letting this dampen my spirits about the community."

"We are here. We are open, and we plan to stay open," he added.

The video shows two suspects, one of whom can be seen hurling an object through the window of the store, both wearing dark clothing.

The poster asked residents and businesses in the area of Westwood Drive to check their security cameras.

The burglars"took off on foot and [a K-9 Unit] followed their scent to Westwood Drive," where it is "assumed" they got into a vehicle," the post stated.

"Please run back any ring cameras you can in the area and help find these individuals," the post concluded.
