Search On For Driver Who Struck Police Officer, Fled Scene: Cops

The officer was cleaning debris from the Shirley roadway when he was struck, police say.

SHIRLEY, NY — Police are asking for the public's help to find the driver who hit a police officer and fled the scene in Shirley in April, authorities said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Seventh Precinct crime section officers said an on-duty police officer, who was removing debris from the roadway, was struck by the passenger side of a dark sedan on April 30 at 12:40 a.m. The officer sustained minor injuries and the driver fled the scene, police said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about the incident can contact Suffolk County Crime Stoppers to submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-220-TIPS, texting "SCPD" and a message to "CRIMES" (274637) or emailing www.tipsubmit.com. All calls, text messages and emails will be kept confidential.
