Security Gate Of Historic Liquor Store In Mastic Vandalized: PD
Two people left the tag "687" outside the landmarked building just after 2 a.m. on July 13, Suffolk police said.
MASTIC, NY — Suffolk County police have released images of two people, who sprayed graffiti on a security gate outside of the historic Mastic Liquors building, in hopes of gleaning information about the vandals' identities.
Police said that on July 13 at about 2:10 a.m. two people spray-painted graffiti — the tag 687 — at the Montauk Highway business. The over 100-year-old building, which was landmarked by Brookhaven Town in 2009, was first opened as a gas station in 1918, but then was converted into a liquor store about 80 years ago, Newsday reported. It is one of the oldest businesses in the area, then-Councilman Keith Romaine told the outlet at the time.
Suffolk’s Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
