Shirley Man Charged In Crash That Injured Woman: Cops

The crash seriously injured a Middle Island woman Saturday, police say.

SELDEN, NY — A Shirley man was arrested and charged Saturday in a two-vehicle crash that left a woman seriously injured in Middle Island, police said.

Edtwan Matthews, 26, of Stanley Drive, was driving a 2005 Mercury eastbound on Route 25 when the vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic, striking a 2007 Honda CRV that was traveling westbound at Arnold Drive and driven by Alexis Dennis, 19, of Ridge, at 6:40 a.m, Suffolk County Police said.

Dennis was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Matthews was arrested and charged with second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument; he was also issued a summons for operating an uninsured vehicle and having a fraudulent motor vehicle tag, police said.

He was issued a field appearance ticket and will be arraigned on a later date, police said.
