The incident comes after police said a teen bicyclist was intentionally struck by a sedan driver in Shirley in August. No arrests have been made in connection with that case, a police spokesman said.

Police could not immediately say if the two incidents are related.

In the Aug. 18 incident, a 14-year-old girl was riding her bike southbound on Flintock Drive, at the intersection of Maple Lane, when a white four-door sedan that was traveling westbound "stopped at the intersection and then accelerated, striking and knocking the teenager to the ground" around 7:45 p.m., police said.

The driver took off without stopping, according to police.

The teen was then transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of "non-life-threatening injuries," police said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest. The hotline can be reached at 1-800-220-TIPS.
