The William Floyd Board of Education has appointed a new trustee, Kevin Meyer, a 19-year resident of Mastic, as the newest Board of Education trustee effective January 1, 2022. Mr. Meyer will fill the seat that will be vacated by Board of Education president Robert Vecchio, who has accepted a position as the next executive director of the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association. Mr. Meyer was selected by the Board of Education after a rigorous interview process among interested members of the community. He will serve until the conclusion of the next trustee election on May 17, 2022. Then, Mr. Meyer, who received the second most votes in the May 2021 trustee election, will have to be elected to fill the remainder of Mr. Vecchio’s term expiring June 30, 2024. The winner of that election will be immediately sworn in.

“Family, friends and community are the foundation needed to build the future of our district and continue with our rich history of community pride and excellence,” said Mr. Meyer. “As a member of the Board of Education, it will be my goal to work with administration and my fellow Board members in continuing to provide opportunities for our students while maintaining affordability for our residents.”
