Zariel Macchia has done it again! On Friday, November 5, the William Floyd High School freshman took home the Suffolk County Class A girls cross country championship outpacing the competition in the 5K at Sunken Meadow State Park! Two weeks ago, Zariel won the Division championship making it two seasons in a row in which she won both the division and county crowns! She has now qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association New York State Championship meet which will take place on Saturday, November 13 at Chenango Valley State Park. Great job, Zariel, Coach John Ryan and all the William Floyd student athletes who competed so well at the state qualifiers! Watch her cross the finish line to bring home the title in the video below!

The William Floyd girls’ varsity cross country team, under the leadership of head coach John Ryan, put together another great performance at the Suffolk County Division Championship Meet held on Thursday, October 28, at Sunken Meadow State Park. Highlights include ninth grader Zariel Macchia winning the Suffolk County Division Championship in the 5K (18:52.4), her second in as many seasons, breaking a 37-year old Sunken Meadow course school record in the process (Edith Vilardi, 18:54.8/1984). Additionally, the team of Zariel Macchia, Alanis Gonzalez, Alaysia Cobb, Aaliyah Jordan, and Karen Jackson combined for the fifth fastest average team time in Suffolk County, qualifying the team for the State Qualifier Meet next Friday. Great job, Colonials! Best of luck next week!
