The program features Dr. Luisa McHugh, chairperson, William Floyd Science Department and New York State Master Teacher Emeritus; and three of her dynamic colleagues, Amanda Huff, environmental and marine science teacher; Martin Palermo, chemistry teacher and New York State Master Teacher Emeritus; and Laura Turano, living environment and forensics teacher; along with two students senior Fiorella Amaini Quinonez and sophomore Dora Lentini! They are pictured near one of Ms. Huff’s hydroponic grow gardens, which was acquired through a grant and allows the students to grow their own vegetables in the classroom! They are currently growing different species of lettuce, Swiss chard, arugula and basil!
"Spotlight on Long Island Schools" is hosted by Robert Vecchio, Board of Education president and the future director of the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association.
