MASTIC BEACH, NY — Brookhaven Town officials demolished another "zombie house" — a dilapidated, vacant structure — in Mastic Beach on Monday.

The house, which was located at 11 Maywood Dr., had been vacant for many years and was the source of numerous resident complaints, officials said, adding that the home had been seized by Suffolk County as a property tax forfeiture. Then an inter-municipal agreement was established between Brookhaven and the county for the demolition and removal of the debris, and the property will remain vacant and preserved as open space.

Councilman Dan Panico lauded the newly-preserved space.
