1 Killed In 2nd Crash At Sunken Meadow Toll Booths In A Week: Police

SMITHTOWN, NY — One person was killed Monday afternoon in a crash at the Sunken Meadow State Park toll booth area, marking the second fatal crash there in one week, New York State Police confirmed.

A State Police spokesperson told Patch that police received a call about the crash at 1:04 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21.

The crash occurred at the toll booth area at the northern end of the Sunken Meadow State Parkway, State Police confirmed.

One person was killed, police said.

The crash comes exactly one week after another person was killed when a vehicle crashed into the toll booth area at the park's entrance and became engulfed in flames on Sept. 14.

State Police responded to that crash around 11:14 a.m. Investigators initially said the damage from the collision and ensuing fire made it difficult to identify the deceased occupant and determine the vehicle's make and model.

State Police said Monday's crash remains under investigation and that State Police expect to release additional information.
