2 Hurt, Woman Charged with DWI in Route 347 Crash

The accident occurred early Tuesday morning, police say.

A 20-year-old woman faces a DWI charge following a Hauppauge crash early Tuesday that injured her and another driver, police said.

According to police, Amanda Dellegar, of Hauppauge, was driving 2004 Toyota Sequoia south on Mount Pleasant Road when her vehicle was struck by a 2008 Ford Explorer that was heading east on Route 347 at 1:05 a.m.

The driver of the Explorer, 52-year-old Michael Maxwell, an investigator with the Suffolk County district attorney’s office, became pinned inside the county-owned vehicle and was extricated by officers from the Suffolk County Police Emergency Services Section.

The impact of the crash sent Dellegar’s vehicle into a building located at 227 Mount Pleasant Road, police said.

Maxwell and Dellegar were transported via Smithtown Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital, where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Dellegar was arrested and charged with DWI. She will be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555.
