2 Pedestrians Killed in Separate Crashes an Hour Apart in Suffolk County

The accidents occurred Wednesday night, police say.

Two pedestrians were killed after they were struck by cars in Suffolk County in accidents that occurred about an hour apart Wednesday night, police said.

The first accident occurred in Bay Shore around 8 p.m.

According to police, a 65-year-old Central Islip woman was driving a 2001 Hyundai Elantra south in the right lane of Fifth Avenue, near Brook Avenue, when she struck a pedestrian who was running from east to west across Fifth Avenue.

The pedestrian, John Green, 57, of Bay Shore, was transported to Southside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The second accident occurred in Nesconset at about 9:10 p.m.

According to police, a 23-year-old Bay Shore man was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee west on Nesconset Highway at the intersection of Browns Road when he struck a pedestrian who was crossing from the median to the north side of Nesconset Highway.

The pedestrian, whose identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Both accidents remain under investigation. No criminal charges have been filed.
