Correction: Franco Calla lives in Port Jefferson Station, not Smithtown, Suffolk police said in a correction.
SMITHTOWN, NY — Two men were arrested Wednesday night in connection with impersonating police officers, Suffolk police said.
Franco Calla, 20, of Port Jefferson Station, and Robert Toomey, 23, of Smithtown, who were in plainclothes, were driving a black 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with flashing blue and white lights on southbound Route 111, at the intersection of East Main Street in Smithtown, police said.

The two approached a man who was driving and told him they were undercover cops at 11:13 p.m., police said. Calla demanded the man’s driver’s license, and Toomey ordered the man to surrender any drugs, police said. The man questioned Calla and Toomey, and they admitted they were not police officers, got back in the Tahoe and drove away, police said.
The duo then tried to pull over and detain a female driver a short distance ahead, but she drove away after the first motorist drove up and warned her about Calla and Toomey, police said. The Tahoe then continued south on Route 111, police said.
