22nd Annual Diane Corey Scholarship Game Held At Smithtown HS East
The game was played in memory of Corey, a three-sport athlete at the school. Her family requested a scholarship be made in her memory.
ST. JAMES, NY — The 22nd annual Diane Corey Scholarship Game was held Friday at Smithtown High School East, the school district announced.
The game was played in memory of Corey, a three-sport athlete who enjoyed all sports during her career at Smithtown High School East. An "amazing athlete," she was a true competitor who loved the sport of field hockey, the district wrote.
Her parents, Pat and Mike Corey, along with her brother, Brian, requested the establishment of a scholarship in her memory.

The scholarship awarded each year to seniors on the Smithtown High School West and East
field hockey teams based on their talents on the field, and contributions to the community and to their team.
Diane died in a car crash in 2002, according to her mother.

"Diane Corey had a huge impact on Smithtown field hockey and its coaches, administrators
and athletes," the district wrote.
